I got a free dress! (Alterations not included.) #SayYesToTheDress #TARDISWedding #davidsbridal

Me in the unzipped dress
When my cousin found out that I was getting married, she offered me her wedding dress. But between family, work, and other obligations, I was unable to get out to her to go see the dress and pick it up.

Well, one Saturday, me, Leigh, my sister, and our friend went to Six Flags Over Texas. She found out and doesn't live too far from where we were so she offered to meet us and bring the dress with her. It was late (probably around 9pm CST) and pretty dark but from what I could tell at that moment, it was big and pretty. She said it was a size 14 and and since I am a size 16, I figured that it would give me time to get back down to the size 14 I was a year ago...

Unfortunately, weight is not the problem. I come from a family with broad (but not busty) chests. My dad's side of the family has broad chests and shoulders, so as I tried on the dress this morning, I stepped into it and one of my initial fears was that it wouldn't go over my hips and butt. That wasn't the problem! The problem came to trying to zip it up. As my sister tried to zip it past my lower back, it wouldn't move! I thought it was my stomach, so I did as most women do and try to suck it in. Nope - stomach wasn't the problem. She touched my sides and my back and felt muscle and bones so we knew that it was made for a petite woman - which my cousin is - so my mind raced but then it hit me- David's Bridal! They do alterations!

Early morning me in unzipped dress

So within the next few months, I will be calling David's Bridal to see if they can help me. I mean, this was a GORGEOUS $900 dress I didn't have to buy and if they can fix my problem, I will be one extremely happy bride-to-be!

(It does have a lot of tulle... And while it makes the dress look nice, it also makes it heavy and very hot. My gay friend, Todd, suggested I get the tulle removed while my sister said keep the tulle.)

What do you guys think - should I remove the tulle or keep it as it is?

How to plan a wedding while working a 40+/hr week job!

Ever since Leigh proposed to me, we have to been trying to plan a wedding, but with one kicker: I work a 40+ hour week as a preschool teacher. I go in early in the mornings and get off late, sometimes staying until 7pm for meetings, so finding time to visit venues or getting information from vendors is very difficult. I have requested days off to visit venues and have used my lunch hour, which I normally would just eat and relax, to call vendors. I've even enlisted the help of my maid-of-honor to call places and get information for me.

So how does one plan a wedding (a Doctor Who wedding at that) while working a 40-hour a week job?

1. Delegate
Use your family, friends, and occasionally, your fiancee to get information, whether it's just getting prices or even just a name and phone number. Have them write down any and all information they receive because while it may not be important to them, it may be important to you.

2. Find time to relax and go over details.
Even if it's just during naptime at preschool (which I have done several times), sit down and just go over small details. You don't have to plan the entire playlist in the setting, but just think of a few songs you think you might want. Save the really major details for when you have a lot more time.

3. IF YOU HAVE TO, request days off.
I only suggest this if you have no other options or aren't off during the week (as most places like venues and some vendors are closed on weekends). Unfortunately for me, I am only off on weekends and by the time I get off work, 75% of the places I want to visit are closed, and fortunately for me, I can request days off to go do what wedding things need to be done without losing pay. Some places offer PTO (with or without a reason) and some done.

4. A Wedding Planner book, a Binder, and a Printer (and an awesome fiancee)
So you don't get completely stressed out, pick up a wedding planner. The day after getting engaged, my mom bought me a wedding planner from David's Bridal. What I love about the one she got me was that it has a checklist by months and makes everything a breeze. But when it comes to gathering information about venues or vendors grouped into one category (like venues or photography vendors), there isn't a lot of pages to gather all the information you need to make a decision as you call venue after venue or vendor after vendor. So what my fiancee did was make a venue information sheet where you can put their name, the person you talked to, pricing, what's included in the price, and everything you can think of and made copies to put into a 3-ring binder I bought. It made getting venue information less stressful and much more organized.

5. When it comes to a guest list, have your fiancee help.
My fiancee has been so helpful through out the entire process so far, and when it comes to the guest list, especially as we get ready to send out our Save The Dates, he is helping me get addresses even from my side of the family. Because we created a Facebook event, he sent out a mass message to everyone we invited asking for their addresses, and 95% have already responded. Social media, especially Facebook, has helped us with getting addresses and figuring out who is interested in coming than wasting money on sending invitations to people who we thought would want to come but have no desire to come. (Plus that gives us a head count, which saves us money on food!)

6. Stay calm.
As long as you stay calm and get as much help as you can, you can easily work a 40+/hr week job and not be completely stressed out! Trust me - when I first realized that I had to start planning a wedding while trying to teach 12 2-year-olds, I freaked out. How was I going to do this? What could I possibly get done? My friends, family, fiancee, and a few moments here and there (like Google while I'm cooking dinner), has helped out a lot!

Plus it doesn't hurt to have caffeine once in a while!

We're getting married! (And help me surprise my future husband!)

It's been a while (almost a year or so) since we last posted an update. Boy, do we have news for you!

Let us take you back to the beginning. Leigh joined the ranks as our resident game reviewer, building our gaming and technology sections to the awesomeness they are now. As Leigh and I started spending a little more time together outside of business (though we still discussed gaming, technology, and the nerdy sides of our hobbies, mostly Doctor Who and Harry Potter), we felt love's blossom plant its seed. We fell in love, and moved in together.

A few months later, Leigh came to me with what would be my first clue that something was happening. One day, we were at his friend's house when he said "People at work know something about me that you don't. It's about me but involves you.". He wouldn't go into any further details, knowing it would drive me crazy!

As the months went on, he would add more clues, tell more people we knew just so they could say "I know something you don't know!". As it got closer to the day I would be finding out, he went out and bought a white poster board which would eventually be my proposal, written in circular Gallifreyan. (At some point, he had me trace the circles and lines because he wasn't very good at tracing, but would not allow me to decipher it yet.) The joshing became unstoppable right until the hour we left for dinner - I was going crazy!

The day he proposed, he took me and my family out for dinner. As he and I came back inside from talking, he asked my sister to get the white poster board (which I was finally able to translate because as he was writing it, he wouldn't let me and I'm a major Doctor Who fan!).

As I got to "marry" in the translation, I turned around, and as you can see in the video, he is on one knee. I couldn't speak - I could only nod. I was like a bobble head!

We're getting married April 1, 2020 (and no, we're not kidding!) with a Whovian-themed wedding.

Now, here is the part I need everyone's help on! Like I said, we're MAJOR Doctor Who fans and Leigh's favorite Doctor is Matt Smith. I would love to surprise him at the wedding with either a personalized autographed photo from Matt Smith or, even better, a video from Matt Smith! (If I could only help you understand the depth of which this man deserves this and so much more. Imagine your darkest days, and imagine someone holding you as spent the entire night crying so hard, you eventually fell asleep in his arms, exhausted.)

So if you can, help this post go viral and help me surprise my fiancee with something beyond his wildest dreams!

Darkest Dungeon: Ancestral Edition for Switch (SPOILERS)

Thanks to Red Hook Games for the partnership. All thoughts/opinions belong ro the reviewer. Your experience may differ. This post contains affiliate links.

(Once again, much thanks to Leigh for the review!)

For those who don't already know SPOILER ALERT! Now that we got that out of the way, let's talk about Darkest Dungeon. For this review I'm going to break it down into three different categories: Graphics, Storyline, and Gameplay.

Graphics

Now as far as graphics go, you can definitely see the detail the designers put into the game, from the way the characters are unique in every class to the town which goes from dawn to dusk. While as for my self, I prefer a smoother 3D texture for my games, this does not at all take away from Darkest Dungeon.

If you can get totally immersed into games like I do, then the sounds and visual effects make the game very eerie and suspenseful. They can make you feel like you are surrounded in this dark atmosphere and using your torches is not only to make the fights easier but also relieves some of the pressure. When you use your abilities or get attacked, you feel every curse, strike and shot from enemies. But also you feel the relief from your buffs and heals. For these reasons I give the graphics a 4.2 out of 5.

Storyline

As far as storyline, it is as eerie and as dark as I can get out. I mean the first part of storyline that you ever hear is an old man telling you his tale and then committing suicide. Now I like to have a storyline that has its ups and downs to keep you interested in wanting to find the rest of it but for me, the progression is a little too slow. It gets you hooked in real quick and then kind of lingers on and it's quite some time before finding out more but when it does it again, it pulls you into the story and makes you want to continue. For this I give the storyline a 3.3 out of 5.

Gameplay

The game play, however, if you like difficult games that are very challenging and don't make it too easy for you to progress, this is the perfect game for you. Although I don't like the fact that I have to have several upon several different champions just to be able to play another mission, this is another part of the game that what makes it so intriguing.

While you can upgrade your Caravan in order to get better Heroes that start at higher levels, it's hard to upgrade because you have to run so many different missions just to get the items you need to upgrade it and that goes along with anything else in this town, which again, makes it challenging and that I like.

Each dungeon is very unique in its own way. The progression through the dungeon makes it even more interesting for you have to look for traps, which can be challenging, and you have to keep torches lit in order to see the traps and to make your fights a little easier; and by easier I mean you may surprise monsters when you fight them to make it easier to fight them but if you run out of torches, they may spot you first and get the first strike. But the positive side of doing that and letting that happen is that you get better Rewards.

Now the leveling system in which your characters level up is really a bit slow. I can play six to seven Dungeons and my characters will only be level 2. As far as using spells and abilities, they were great for me, some very weak but I know as it progressed, the spells got stronger and more useful. The fact that you get to upgrade everything in the town made it that more intriguing to keep doing dungeons, but in order to do that you have to have a lot of people because they can start losing health and when they do that you have to put them into a place like the bar or brothel or the cathedral so they can pray in order to relieve the stress that's put on them and heal up but again, that makes the game even more enticing. And based on this I would give the game play a 4.7 out of 5.

I recommend this game for anybody who likes the gruesome, the dangerous, and the eerie. However I would not recommend it for children for obvious reasons. I believe this game was well made well-planned and brilliantly designed and I think it would be a must have for RPG players.

5 Tips to Maintaining Your Car

This post is sponsored by Cars.com. All thoughts/opinions belong to the writer. Your experience may differ.

When it comes to owning a car, there are a lot of things that go into owning a car. You have to think about gas, insurance, and making sure that your car stays in tiptop shape, which includes maintenance on the car. But there are some things you can do yourself to keep your car running like it should.

Here a few tips to keep in mind when maintaining your vehicle so you're not visiting the repair shop frequently.

Keep an eye on fluids.  This includes brake fluid, oil levels, washer fluid, coolant, and any other levels your car has or needs. Remember: If you're not sure what the correct level is, consult your car's manual.
  • Oil Change - Almost every vehicle requires an oil change every 3000-5000 miles. Not changing your oil can result in major mechanical problems - including a seized engine. (I speak from experience!! A new used vehicle only a year old became a paperweight.) You can check your oil levels while pumping gas!
  •  Brake fluid - It is important to keep your brakes in working order. The brake fluid serves as a lubricant of all movable parts and prevents corrosion. And as we all know, brakes that don't work as they should is a recipe for disaster.
  • Washer fluid - Your windshield gets dirty while you're driving or you notice that it needs a quick cleaning while you're on the highway, so what do you do? Use your windshield washer jets, right? Well, what if there is no washer fluid in there? Your windshield stays dirty, and all that dirt just piles on until a) you wash your car, or b) you finally fill it up.  If there is no washer fluid in the fluid reservoir, internal parts of the pump can corrode and the plastic parts can degrade.
Learn to do simple repairs. Every car owner should learn to do simple repairs because you're not always going to be able to get to a repair shop when you should or you just simply can't afford it, and this includes changing your windshield wiperss or how to jump your car when you have a dead battery.

Tires are VERY important! Have you ever noticed a car with bald tires? More than likely, that car has trouble gripping the road and will spin or fishtail during bad weather. Safe driving should always include tires with good tread. One simple way to check your tire's tread is the Penny Trick. If you can see Lincoln's head, you are in dire need of tires. (Tip: The Penny Trick is something else you can do while fueling up!)

Clean those mirrors and windows (along with your headlights)! If you clean mirrors and windows at home, you should do the same thing for your car. Headlights looking a little, well, foggy? They may need to be restored. (Found this awesome guy at the Wal-Mart in Hillsboro, Texas that does AMAZING headlight restoration, and Wal-Mart only charges $30 for it.)

Your interior should look just as good as your exterior. If you ever planning on selling your vehicle, a clean interior can mean the difference between the amount you were looking for and a much lower sale. Wash the exterior at least once a month and clean the interior every 3 months. Some people get their cars detailed. Go to Cars.com to find out more.

What are some other tips you use when it comes to keeping your car running and looking great?

Gamers get a competitive edge by using #TurtleBeach Elite PRO PC Headsets

Thanks to Turtle Beach for the partnership. All thoughts/opinions belong to the reviewer. Your experience may differ.

(Thanks to Leigh, our resident gamer, for the review!)

I have been a gamer for many years and have played on multiple platforms and have playes multiple genres of games. But I have always wondered what could I do to improve my play style.

Of course I've heard numerous ways to improve one thing or another in a game but it usually comes down to the gear you use to play - a custom or advanced keyboard can help you prioritize skills, abilities, and weapons better than a normal keyboard, while a custom mouse could also help you  with reaction times, aiming, and spell or skill set manipulation through macros.

Although I have tried many keyboards and mice to find a set that works better with my play style, I always seem to be lacking in some aspect. I never knew how much sound quality could affect how well or poorly you do in a game until I was able to use the Turtle Beach Elite Pro Professional Surround Sound PC Gaming Headset.

I have used many different brands of headsets and mics and each one seems to be the same. They all seem to put out good sound quality and comfortability and clarity when it comes to talking with your team... Or so I thought. I never knew how wrong I was.

COMFORT & SOUND
After using the Turtle Beach Elite Pro Headset, not only did I immediately notice how comfortable they were and how they had adequate ventilation for your head and ears, but I also noticed that the sound quality was unrivaled in its ability to pick up every single audio detail.

We all know thar when playing games, the quality of each game has improved over the years to where even the slightest sounds from reloading a gun to a tip toe are in each game, but what I noticed is on most headsets is that those sounds are so faint of a sound, you can barely notice them.

After using the Turtle Beach Elite Pro, I could hear every subtle detail in sound that I've never heard before, or at least not clearly. I played several rounds of Call of Duty and noticed that my KDA had improved tremendously compared to other games before using it. I was able to hear the small reloading sounds from behind a wall or someone trying to crouch and sneak behind me; therefore it decreased my reaction time and I was able to dodge and move out of the way or kill someone I normally wouldn't have heard before.

MIC
As for the mic on the Turtle Beach Elite Pro, my teammates and friends could tell me how much better of a quality of sound was coming from my end and how they could hear more clearly what I was saying to them in terms of strategy or any other situation you may need it for.

OVERVIEW
If you are one of those people who always wonder why it seemed like other players had a bigger edge over you in a game, there is a good possibility they are using a high quality headset like the Turtle Beach Elite Pro Surround Sound PC Headset. I would recommend anyone who wishes to just improve their game or even if they plan to become pro to purchase the Turtle Beach Elite Pro. Watch your score skyrocket.

Ponytails vs Divatress - bringing out the diva in you!

This post is compensated. All thoughts/opinions belong to the writer. Your experience may differ.

When it comes to bringing out your inner diva, hair is important... Well, it is for me. Minus work outs and just general day-to-day ponytails, I always try to have something a little more going on when I feel like looking nice or just add a little more oomph (especially when my hair is feeling particularly flat that day).

Ponytails are always a good choice. They are easy, quick, and there are actually a lot of different ways to do a ponytail. My favorite has always been the swept-to-the-side ponytail. It's so elegant-looking but oh-so easy!

Updos aren't so easy and quick but they can pack a punch! You can find lots of tutorials and ideas on YouTube. (This one is awesome!!)

But for when I want to wear my hair down, my go-to arsenal are half-wigs, and Divatress's sensationnel line of lace front wigs and half-wigs are not only pretty, but they're affordable!

My favorite is the Sensationnel Instant Weave Half Wig – TUSCANY. It comes in 8 different colors and the medium brown almost matches my hair perfectly! Since I have trouble getting texture in my hair to stay, a half-wig like the Tuscany would make it a lot easier - all I would have to do is style the front! I always likes that wavy look but because my hair gets flat so easily, styling my entire head and keeping it that way is more work than it's worth (and that makes me sad). So this would be a great option for those who are in the same boat!

Even for those with long hair who have trouble getting it styled and keeping it that way for any length of time, it's a battle - most often, a losing battle. Don't let the diva stay inside - maybe Divatress can help you bring it out!

Jason's Deli is helping cancer research (and it's delicious)

Thanks to Jason's Deli for the partnership. All thoughts/opinions belong to the writer. Your experience may differ.

564,800 Americans are expected to die of cancer this year, which means more than 1,500 people a day.

Thankfully, not everyone who gets cancer does not become a statistic.

June is National Cancer Survivors Month and since 2013, Jason's Deli and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas have teamed up in support of cancer research, by educating people through showing how important nutrition is for treatment and prevention with their new healthy Salmon Pacifica Salad.

The Salmon Pacifica Salad is made with healthy omega-3 wild-caught sockeye salmon, potassium-filled avocado, grape tomatoes full with lycopene, fire-roasted Piquillo peppers, pickled onions, cucumbers, and organic field greens with a cucumber-dill vinaigrette.

Cancer has touched many lives, including my own. I lost an aunt to stomach and bladder cancer in 2005 and I also have a relative who is currently battling leukemia. Believe it or not, I have an aunt who just beat Stage 2 breast cancer, so supporting cancer research is important to me.

I was able to go to Jason's Deli, try out the Salmon Pacifica Salad, and find out more about this important partnership.

Did you know that 50 cents from every Salmon Pacific's Salad sold goes to cancer research, and since 2013, they have raised over $713,000? (They also create or switch a new salad every 6 months!)

For the Salmon Pacifica salad, at first glance, is a surprise. You can see chunks of salmon, avocado, and the fire-roasted Piquillo Peppers on a bed of greens. Everything tasted so fresh, and each ingredient added another level of flavor. I've never had Cucumber-Dill vinaigrette before, and the tanginess on top of the Piquillo Peppers, pickled onions, and avocado brought all of the flavors together.

What made the experience even more was the General Manager, Chad, came by the table as we were eating and talked to us - not only about the partnership, but his history with Jason's Deli and the company as a whole.

Jason's Deli not only cares about their own people (which was why the partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center originally started), they just care.

FAVE Juice is runner-approved!

This post was compensated. However, all thoughts/opinions belong to the reviewer. Your experience may differ.

Juice. It's everywhere; apple juice, orange juice, cranberry juice, prune juice, grape juice, V8... A lot of times, though, it's not very healthy - it's filled with sugar and preservatives. Don't get me wrong - I love juice! A nice big glass of cold OJ in the morning with my cereal? Yep! But all that sugar just makes me feel sluggish. What if there was a way to get your fruits and veggies without all that sugar (or sodium) and without sacrificing that delicious taste?

There's a juice called Fave Juice! It's an all natural 100% fruit and vegetable juice with 3 FULL servings of fruits and veggies with each 8oz glass! Seriously - if you're having trouble chowing down on fruits and veggies (because there are times you just want to scream if you eat another piece of broccoli), why not try a juice that gives you the fruits and veggies you need? (Just don't forget to still eat your fruits and vegetables. Those are important!)

Nutritional Value for Strawberry-Banana-Kiwi

Even better, there is less than 45mg of sodium and 60 calories in each serving. For a runner who is trying to watch her sodium content due to the fact that I gain water weight really easily, this is a no-brainer for me.

Fave Juice also comes in 3 delicious flavors (check out their ingredients!) - Strawberry-Banana-Kiwi, Pomegranate-Blueberry-Goji, and Tangerine-Orange-Pineapple. Yum!

It's a great alternative to fruit juices and soda, and it's also great for kids!

Be sure to follow Fave on Facebook!  You can also check out their store locator to see where it is available. (You can also purchase FAVE on Amazon.)

Ready for the taste test?

I love fruits and vegetables. But I also love juice. Where my Dad worked, he was able to bring home juice all the time. Granted, it wasn't the healthy kind, but it was still juice. Once I realized I needed a healthier alternative to those unhealthy juices and soda (which I still drink occasionally because I'm a Texan and Dr Pepper is life!), I went on a search.

Strawberry-Banana-Kiwi

I came across Face Juice and knew I had to try it! The first flavor I tasted was Strawberry-Banana-Kiwi, all 3 flavors I love... Never had them combined but it was worth a shot. You can definitely taste the veggies, which isn't a bad thing! You want to taste the veggies. But then you get that taste of strawberry, banana, and kiwi... I liked it a lot, especially VERY cold. It ended up being my favorite of the 3 flavors and I'll normally drink it after a run or workout.

Orange-Tangerine-Pineapple (with ice)

The Orange-Tangerine-Pineapple was definitely a combination I would have loved as a kid who always had juice with her morning cereal! It has become my go-to morning drink, after coffee, when I eat cereal in the morning. It's like drinking a glass of OJ, just a lot healthier and much more tasty. (Did I mention it also less sugar so it doesn't taste like you're just drinking a cup of sugar?)

Pomegranate-Blueberry-Goji

As for the Pomegranate-Blueberry-Goji, that was a combination I never would have through of, but they go so well together! Kind of tart but with a sweetness behind it. If I didn't eat healthy that day, I'll relax at the end of the day with a glass of it and promise myself to do better tomorrow... Or the next day...

Fave Juice - runner and taste buds approved! (And can I just say that mixing the OTP and PBG flavors is awesome? Yeah, it is!)

An Early Access Look at Tanzia

Thanks to Aracnity, Inc. for the partnership. All thoughts/opinions belong to the reviewer. Your experience may differ.

Tanzia is an old-style RPG set in a 3D open world currently being developed by Arcanity, Inc.

Arcanity Inc.'s first title, Tanzia is currently available in beta testing on Steam and Leigh, who recently reviewed Guardians Of Ember, got a chance to play and test out what is available in the game (which is still being developed).

(Much thanks to Leigh for the review!)

Tanzia happens to be one of my favorite genres of games RPG. Although it is an RPG and single-player, it gives you the feel of an MMORPG. The concepts and controls of the game are unique for a single-player RPG, because unlike other RPG’s where you either have a turn based fighting system or a hack and slash fighting style, you have a 10 slot spell bar and complete freedom of movement. Although your character has a staff to do melee combat with, the game does flow around a spell casters play set, at least until you unlock the ability to turn into a bear.

Storyline

As far as the storyline goes I am still trying to finish it because the game is still unfinished and the storyline is not complete, but the storyline as of now seems to be a good one so I am really anxious to see what happens next. The story so far is a narrative one - it is filled excitement, it keeps you hooked, and gives you the want to play on so you can hear more of it.

Gameplay

As far as the gameplay, I find it challenging and very enticing for you to explore and want to find out all you can about the areas and what things you may discover. Each new area has a lot to explore and some things are easy to miss if you don’t go looking for it.

Even the quests help you learn how to play a MMORPG in a single-player environment. They even have a tutorial quest to teach you how to “kite” enemies to where you can take them down without receiving damage. In regards to the quests I only have this to say: I wish they either used the MMORPG style where quest givers had something saying they have a quest for you or you are ready to turn in a quest such as a Gold or blue exclamation point or had name plates above the NPC’s head so you can find who it tells you to find in the quest just so you don’t have to run around talking to everyone just to find who you need.

With the spell list I think it’s perfect; I just don’t know how to level up the individual spells to level 2 or higher, but that could be because ether it is not currently implemented or I just missed something.

Controls & Graphics

The controls are originally set up in MMORPG style but for me that was way too difficult to play because there is no auto attack like in most MMORPGs so you have to hit “1” a lot just to use physical attacks and with all the “kiting” needed it makes it difficult to do so and get a good spell rotation done, so because of these difficulties I decided to use a controller for the game which made it a little easier on the handling.

The graphics are amazing for the comic book style they chose for the game. The storyline is told comic book style with no real CGI animation scenes but with this game, I like it.

Overall

Overall I would give the game a 4 out of 5 and the only reason that is, is because I hate waiting to finish storylines but I am confident that once it is complete, it would be 5’s across the board and I can’t wait to see what the developers do next.

Tanzia is currently in beta testing on Steam for $14.99. Developers are looking for feedback on quests and gameplay.

What To Expect At The Bowen MusicFest!

The Bowen Family Foundation, a foundation set up by the Wade Bowen family to raise money for kids in need and charitable organizations that are close to their hearts, host what is called the Bowen MusicFest at the first of June every year. You get to hear great music from some of country's best artists, hear amazing stories about how the Bowen Family Foundation has helped local people, and just have a great time supporting some great charities.

Charlie Daniels!!!
This year, I really wanted to go. Charlie Daniels was playing and being raised on his music, I really wanted to go! But unfortunately, I couldn't afford tickets so I thought "Well, there's always next year.", even though the headliner will be different next year.

Then Sunday morning, on June 4th, we get a call from our aunt. She had originally purchased tickets for her and her husband but because her back went out, she wasn't able to go. She offered us the tickets! This year's line-up included the Charlie Daniels Band (of course), Kip Moore, Holly Tucker, Roger Creager, Flatland Calvary, Shinyribs,  and a whole lot more so I was gladly to accept those tickets! (Speaking of which, you can buy your early-bird tickets for $25 or pay $30 at the gates. VIP wristbands are also available, though I'm not sure where or how you get them.)

The Voice and "Dallas On Your Boots" singer Holly Tucker
The gates opened at 1pm but the live music didn't start until 2pm. I got there just as the gates were opening... I should have left that morning because the lines to get in were long! When you first walk in (after getting bags checked and tickets scanned), you're bombarded by the smell of food and beer and by the sound of music being played over the speakers.

You can bring lawn chairs and I suggest finding a great spot in the grass early because if you want to be able to see the live music without standing in front of the stage because after a few hours, even finding a suitable spot will be difficult.

Normally at most kinds of music festivals, cash or cards is used. Well, cash is still used at the Bowen Music Fest, but you use that cash to purchase carnival-like tickets when you want to buy food or drinks. (You could only use cash for alcohol and souvenirs.) The money used to purchase tickets went towards the Bowen Family Foundation, so while it threw me off, I thought it was a great way to bring in more donations. C'mon - food trucks, country music, and beer? That's a  Central Texas music festival!
Texas Country artist Mike Ryan
There really aren't any activities for adults (but it's live country music and beer - what more could you ask for), but they did have a kids play area. There generally aren't a lot of children at the Bowen MusicFest, however, but if you do bring your kids, there's an area for them to play, but it does close down pretty early, around 8pm or 9pm, even though the festival isn't officially over until around 10pm.

The live music is pretty much all day, with recorded music being played between artists. The live music during the day before the headliner features smaller country artists and bands. The headliner usually performs about 6pm. This year it was the Charlie Daniels Band. (I totally fan-girled!)  But at 8:30pm, Wade Bowen is joined onstage with some of Texas's biggest country stars called the Wade Bowen Jam. This year's Wade Bowen Jam featured Kip Moore (who sings Something About A Truck), Roger Creager, Stoney Larue, and quite a few others.

One more of the legendary Charlie Daniels... I couldn't resist!

One more thing I suggest: sunscreen. You can't bring it in with you, so apply before you arrive. You'll need it.

So to recap what to expect if you're going to attend the Bowen MusicFest next year:

  • Early-bird tickets are available, which you can print from your computer or have it scanned from your phone. VIP wristbands are available... Somewhere.
  • Get there early so you can find a good spot on the lawn for your chairs.
  • You use cash to purchase carnival-like tickets for food and drinks. (Alcohol and souvenirs are cash only. Cards are not accepted but there is an ATM available.)
  • Live music will be playing all day. Headliners start around 6pm with the Wade Bowen Jam starting about 8:30pm and lasts until 10pm.
  • There is a kids play area.
  • Sunscreen. Need I say more?
I cannot wait to see who will be at the Bowen MusicFest next year!

Need daily outfit ideas? Check out Cladwell nifty iOS app!

I cannot tell you how many times I've looked at my clothes and thought "What the hell do I wear today?". I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, so that's what I'll normally put on. However, there are times I just want to change it up, even if it's a blouse or the shoes I want to wear. But to be honest, I'm not all that good at choosing different outfits.

Cladwell helps you maximize your closet and get the most out of your clothes by giving you expertly styled outfits, sent to your phone every morning, using the clothes you already own through their nifty iOS Cladwell app! It helps you maximize your wardrobe by seeing all the outfit possibilities in your closet.

How do you get started on Cladwell?

Head on over to Cladwell and sign up for their free 3-day trial. Monthly subscriptions start out at $7.99. (Or you can save 60% by signing up for a yearly subscription. What woman doesn't like saving money?!)

Then head over to iTunes and download their app. If you already signed up via iTunes, you can login and manage your subscription.

How does Cladwell work?

You add items that are similar to the ones you own.

See every outfit possibility that are appropriate for your current weather, or see every possible outfit. (Who wants to wear wool in the middle of summer??)

Log the outfit you love and with each day, you get more insight into what you love and don't don't like.

Because we all have clothing we don't wear, you can declutter, making room for what you really want to keep.

Add only the items that give you the most outfit possibilities. Trade impulse buys for items you love and you know you will wear constantly. (My Dr Pepper shirt stays!)

So for people like me, with way too many shirts and bottoms to choose from, I'm kind of digging Cladwell!

See #Cars3 race into theaters June 16th!

This post did not receive compensation. Assets were received through our partnership with Walt Disney Company.

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez (voice of Cristela Alonzo), with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!

We're big Disney fans here at Edge Of Insanity. Me and Leigh (our new team member and writer) may have our favorites, but Leigh's son is a MAJOR Cars fan!

FACT: Did you know that filmmakers added four characters to the film that were inspired by real NASCAR legends? They include Junior Johnson, Louise Smith (who entered her first race in 1949), Wendell Scott, and Henry "Smokey" Yunick.

Since Cars 3 releases into theaters on June 16th, we've decided to keep the excitement going by sharing some awesome activity sheets and recipes for you and your family to try while you wait for Lightning McQueen and the gang to hit theaters!
