Thoughts for Friday: Letting Go

I know this Thoughts for Thursday Friday is a day late. I was super busy and not feeling well so I was pretty exhausted by the end of the day. But I did spend a lot of my Thursday thinking of what to talk about. But then a current situation automatically came to mind and I thought it would be perfect!

Letting go is hard. Whether you're waiting for someone to make a decision to accept you in their lives (as is my current situation), or letting go of all your worry. When it comes to love, letting go is one of the hardest things to do. You still care for the person, but you can't wait around forever. You deserve happiness. Someone I care for acted like he wanted to be with me. So I told him how I felt and waited for him to give me an answer. He started distancing himself from me, so I decided that it was pretty much my answer and let go of what could have been. I'm not saying it doesn't hurt, but I needed to let go of any sad emotions in order for me to be happy.

When it comes to stress, worry, or anxiety, that can be just as hard. The minute you think of letting go of your stress/worries/anxiety, you start worrying over whether you made the right choice. Or you think of something else that needs to be stressed over. We've all been there. I won't tell you not to worry, because I would do the same thing. I can only tell you to let go for just a second. How did that feel? Scary, right? Let go for another second. Much better? One minute of every day, just take time to let go of any stress you might be feeling and you'll notice your body relax. You're then able to continue on your day more aware of maybe just a little bit happier.

What do you feel you need to let go of?

Happy smiles with Colgate Slim Soft! (Review)

Colgate Soft Slim
NEW Colgate Slim Soft toothbrush has slimmer* tip bristles to effectively remove plaque between the gum line and between teeth, with 6X deeper reach than a regular flat trim brush!

Colgate Slim Soft toothbrush is specially designed with 17X slimmer* tip bristles, 35% more bristles than a regular flat trim brush, and a unique curved and flexible handle provide a unique mouth feel while and after brushing.

You can find the NEW Colgate Slim Soft toothbrush wherever Colgate products are sold. Prices vary, but the suggested retail price is $3.99 each.

*vs ordinary end-rounded brushes.

WHAT I THOUGHT
Colgate Slim Soft Gliding Tips
I've said it before, but I have a gum condition where on one of my bottom teeth, the gum doesn't fully cover the bottom of the tooth, leaving the tooth exposed. Gross, I know. Sorry! So when it comes to brushing with a regular hard brush, my gums get irritated pretty quickly.

The new Colgate Slim Soft Gliding Tips toothbrush was very gentle on my gum line. I was able to brush my teeth (especially that bottom exposed tooth) and my gums without them turning red. I noticed that the bristles were very soft. They just glided over my teeth and gums like a soft touch. I had a little trouble reaching my wisdom teeth, but the Colgate Slim  Soft Pro Tip toothbrush took care of that.

Colgate Slim Soft Pro Tip
As you can see, it has a raised end to reach the back of your mouth with no problem. So my wisdom teeth were able to get a good cleaning as well. The Pro Tip brush was also just as soft. My teeth and gums were clean from both brushes, and no irritated gums! I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to a regular hard brush. My gums (and my dentist) will thank me!

Are you living a mindful life? (Review)

Have you ever wanted to become more mindful in your life? Mindfulness offers both a set of techniques and a way of living that can lead towards greater peace, wisdom, and joy.

Mindfulness Workbook for Dummies contains ways to achieve and practice mindfulness in your life. It is chock full of worksheets, exercises, tips, and so much more to help you on your mindful journey.Being mindful has been known to help with not only the positive in your life, but also depression, stress, anxiety, and some physical/emotional pain.
Worksheet
Aside from the workbook, the book lists several websites where you can find audio meditation techniques, retreats, and more information about mindfulness.

BUY
You can purchase Mindfulness Workbook for Dummies for $19.99 US.

WHAT I THOUGHT
Since life has been really stressful this year, I am having a hard time dealing with the present. I always look back to the past or ahead to the future. Either one is scary and not very helpful, which can be emotionally draining. So when I learned I would be reading Mindfulness Workbook for Dummies, I was a little nervous. Can being mindful truly help my current state of being?

For a short answer, I think it can. As I look through the book daily, I am able to take away little tidbits or thoughts to help me not only get through the day but notice things I normally wouldn't- like how grateful I am to have the things we need, no matter how little it is.

I still have a long way to go before I can achieve being mindful. I'm still sort of unforgiving towards a few people. There are times that I can't wait for the day to end. But I work through the worksheets, and I am back to realizing that I am in the "now". Those worksheets definitely help and I will probably end up making copies for future times.

I love that the book gently brings you into being mindful. I also love that it has meditation techniques, and having done meditation before, some of these techniques I have never tried- like the Body Scan!

It might not be a major goal, but I hope to be mindful and finally have inner peace by the time I turn 30 next year. I think the Mindfulness Workbook for Dummies might help me with that goal.

See The Artwork of Steampunk! (Review)

NOTE: Because this book is a little different from other books we have reviewed, the review will be different from our other book reviews. This post may contain affiliate links.

So what exactly is steampunk? Steampunk is Victorian-era science fiction. Since the nineteenth century, steampunk has been gaining popularity. Ever seen 20.000 Leagues Under the Sea? That's a steampunk movie.

Airship Voyager; Camryn Forrest
The Art of Steampunk by Art Donovan (author and steampunk artist) features extraordinary devices, artwork, and sculptures from the leading steampunk artists. These artists take you on a futuristic ride through the world of steampunk. They use gears, metal, gadgets, leather, and other materials to get that brassy look that is steampunk.

WHAT WE THOUGHT
Datamancer; Richard Nagy
Twin got interested in steampunk earlier this year, and I eventually got curious and starting gaining some interest in it myself. When I found out that we would have the chance to review The Art of Steampunk, it was kind of exciting!

When I started flipping through the pages, I was greeted with stunning pictures and unique pieces of art. Some didn't interest me because some of them just seemed too "machine-like". But some of the pieces were mind-boggling! Steampunk artist Richard Nagy created a WORKING steampunk computer!
Mikhail Smolyanov motorcycles

Another artist by the name of Ian Crichton made slide-on steampunk cases for MP3 players, mobile
telephone (That's what it says in the book!), and one even contained a digital camera!

Even if you're not into steampunk like we are, you will marvel at the imagination these amazing artists have.

I decided that since Twin was more into steampunk than I currently am, she should have the book. I don't know if I'll ever see it again.

Thoughts for Thursday: Hope

Through out our lives, we hope for something. We hope for rain. We hope that our favorite flavor of ice cream is in stock when we go to the grocery store. But when it comes to the big things, hope can mean the difference between happiness and sadness.

When I was hospitalized with a staph infection, I hoped that everything would turn out okay. When my father lost his job this Spring, I hoped that not only would our family make it, but that he would find another job soon. Not only did hope get me through those long days, it also gave me the motivation to help my healing. It also gave me the motivation to help my father find a job.

I know we talked about staying positive last week. While hope and being positive can be the same thing in certain situations. But most of the time, hope and positiveness are two separate things. You can be having an absolutely cruddy day and you can't see the goodness in your day. You just hope tomorrow is better.

Having hope can help you cope with everything from depression, stress, to even disease. When you give hope wings, you are able to look on the bright side of things. Let's say that a close friend has died. And  instead of hoping that you can make it through life without them by your side, you hope that the family finds comfort with their loss. You know that your friend will always be there with you. Comforting yourself with that thought allows you to deal with the loss better.

Hope doesn't have to mean hoping for big things, like a cure for cancer or something to bring you out of this stressful situation. Hoping for a good & happy day can make make a difference as well!

What was the last thing you were hopeful for?

Our life living with Meniere's.

It's no secret that my Mom suffers from Meniere's disease. Meniere's Disease is a disorder that causes spontaneous bouts of vertigo, dizziness, or even passing out. It can cause ringing in the ears or fluctuations of hearing loss in generally one ear. There really is no cure. There are treatments, but no cure.

It all started one cold Saturday in either 2009 or 2010. It's been so long, I had forgotten. But Twin and I were in the bedroom watching TV. Dad was out back, fixing the lawn mower. Twin says to me, "I think she's yelling for us.". The hair on the back of my neck pricked up because it wasn't a normal yell. It was very faint, and you could barely hear the word "girls". I walk into the hallway, look in the bathroom, and see Mom sitting on the floor. I didn't know what to think. She told me she had passed out for the second time in less than 10 minutes. I get Dad and we rush her to the hospital.

They kept her for a few days, but couldn't find anything wrong with her. So she comes back home and we do some research. We finally find out that her symptoms were exactly like Meniere's. Everything fit, down the bouts of vertigo.

Our lives have drastically changed since that fateful day she passed out. She no longer drives. She can't have certain foods. She's not supposed to have caffeine (since it can make it worse), but you can't keep a woman from caffeine. She can't go into a store alone just in case she passes out. But before you think she has lost all independence, she can still do some housework. She just asks for help when it gets to be too much.

She has also come up with ways to deal with the symptoms. For her nausea and even light-headedness, she takes with generic motion sickness medicine or the brand Dramamine. If you suffer from vertigo and have nausea, you might want to give Dramamine a try. It's a lot better than generic motion sickness, but I must warn you- it is awfully expensive, too!

If she feels she is going to pass out, she lays down on the couch and tries to push the feeling away. She hasn't passed out in years (or so she says), so I think her idea works. But she is most prone to want to pass out just before a cold front or storm. What she does is take Dramamine and does breathing counts. She counts in 4 breaths, holds it for 4 seconds, and breathes out for 4 seconds. This is called "square breathing". It helps bring the oxygen back into her brain, and she is less-likely to pass out. For those who suffer from vertigo and get dizzy before a weather change, I suggest you don't do anything extraneous to cause any further dizziness. If you have to do something, take your time. Sit down when you feel like you could pass out at any moment.

Emotionally, Meniere's and vertigo can make you feel like you've lost a part of your life. You may even feel depressed. Don't let the bad days get you down. Surround yourself with family and talk about it.

It doesn't have to a life sentence. There are ways to deal with, one day at a time.

ModCloth has home decor!

ModCloth is well known for their delicious clothing and accessories. But did you know that they actually have home decor now? I know! Their home decor is retro- and indie-style, which will fit almost any home style.
Queen Anne's Place Candlebra

I personally love the Stay a Little Orbit Longer Clock, since I am a space nerd. For something really retro, the You're Sprawl Invited Rug just screams 60's! Yep. Next time I'm in the mood to redecorate, I am so totally heading to ModCloth!

My Movies on Demand Addiction!

I am ashamed to say this, but I have an addiction to Moves on Demand. Within the past 2 months, I have ordered over 5 movies and have watched each one at least twice. I had to watch Sweeney Todd three times because I kept getting interrupted.

It all started when I saw that Dark Shadows was on MOD and ordered it. Since we have limited cable channels, there really isn't anything on television that keeps my attention. I've tried watched Cedar Cove but I keep forgetting it comes on so I've given up on trying to keep up with it. Anyways, since we don't have a DVD player at the moment (It died a horrible death. We're working on getting another one.) or Netflix, the only thing we have to watch movies we want is either on the computer or MOD. I don't like sitting in one spot too long to watch a movie, so I decided MOD won.

You want to know how deep my addiction goes? I will go through MOD daily for at least 30 minutes looking for a movie to watch. If I don't find something, I will turn the channel to something and think about that movie I couldn't decide on. I will talk to Twin about the movie and see what she thinks. If she agrees to it, we buy it. If not, I will go through it once again to find a movie we both enjoy.

The last movie we ordered was Despicable Me, only because it hadn't been on TV in a while and we both love the movie- especially those minions. I think that was about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I will probably go through MOD again tomorrow to see if there are any good new movies out worth ordering.

I think I have a love affair with movies.

What is your current addiction?

Thoughts for Thursday: Staying Positive

This year has been terrible for us, but the only way were able to weather the storms was to stay positive, no matter what happened.

Staying positive is hard. Sometimes it is down right impossible. You just feel like there is no solution to the problem or that the chips are stacked against you. But if you constantly worry over it, then you are not giving your brain a chance to clear. When you think positive, your brain clears and you are able to see a light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how far away it is. Even a little glimmer of hope allows you to figure out a solution.

Even if you aren't going through something, being positive allows you to live the day just a little bit happier. You are able to see the good in almost every situation. Even checking something off your to-do list can help you feel positive. That accomplishment makes you think that your day is going good so far. Continue thinking that and conquer the rest of your day!

Staying positive long-term is very difficult. Make goals, and truly believe you will reach them. If you're feeling down, talking a friend to get you back on track.

I don't expect you to think sunshine, roses, and unicorns all the time. No sane person can think that every minute of every day. But if you think to yourself "This day went pretty good. Maybe tomorrow will be just as great!" at the end of every day, you eventually start believing it.

So go on out there and be as positive as you can!

Nail Art: Gold & Red Ribbon for Beginners

Excuse my crappy nail polish. I kinda stink at applying it. LOL

I am in no way an expert at painting my nails. I am lucky if I can go the whole day without ruining them. As you can see, I even have trouble keeping the polish on my nails and not on my fingers. In fact, I mostly just paint them one color and maybe add some clear glitter to them. But the other day, I was tired of my purple nails so I decided to try something with gold and red, since I like the way it looks.

Here is what I used:
Milani- Tricky Treat (No longer carried by Milani but you can find it on Amazon or maybe eBay)
New England Patriots red (It came in a twin-pack with a Patriots blue I bought on Amazon)
Scotch tape

Here's what I did:
1. You can put a base coat on the bottom. I didn't have any, so I didn't. If you do put on a base coat, let that completely dry. Then put on 2 coats of the Tricky Treat and then let it dry completely. It cannot be wet in any way.
2. Tear a strip of scotch tape in half and put the straight edges on your nail going from one edge to the other, leaving a gap between the edges. Like this: \ \ Paint the gap with the red. I did it about twice since the red is a little thin.
3. Take the tape off and touch up and spots you missed. If you accidentally get any under the tape, you can either redo the whole nail or just leave it. I left it.
4. Do all your other nails on that same hand in the same direction as you did the first finger.

For the second hand, repeat the same steps but have the stripes going in the opposite direction. You can top if off with a top coat, but since I'm out of that as well, I didn't bother. I think I'll pick up a base and top coat next time I head out to buy more polish.

It's really easy, that even a beginner (like me) can do and from far away, it sort of looks like a red ribbon!

Early Christmas Shopping Tips

Right now, I know a lot of people are thinking about shopping for back to school. Since I don't have children nor am I in college, I have been focused on figuring out my Holiday gift budget. I also know that some people are trying to find deals for gift ideas. So if you're one of those who like me, you're trying to come up with a came plan that won't break the bank.

1. Get a Christmas wishlist early. Getting your children to make a wishlist early may seem a little weird, but as toys go on sale before the Holidays, you can buy them and check them off the list.
2. Figure out how many gifts each person gets. Last year, everyone got about 2 gifts each, plus 2 stocking stuffers each. This year, I am hoping to move up to at least 3 gifts each, plus 2 of 3 stocking stuffers. If you figure out how many gifts each person gets, you can get then sort of figure out a rough price for each gift.
3. Put a price limit on each gift. Creating a price limit for each gift allows you to buy more gifts for each person. But it also allows you to create a more well-rounded gift budget with room to allow for surprise guests or last-minute hostess gifts. We usually have a price limit of $20 or $30 per gift.
4. Look for sales or clearances! Now that Summer is almost over with, stores are going to putting toys and other fun things on sale so they can push them out for back-to-school inventory. Prices are going to be their lowest just before the Holidays. So buy when you can!
5. Use Ebates.com.  If you're shopping online, be sure to check Ebates.com for coupon codes and cash back.
6. Keep an eye on deal blogs and websites. Sometimes, stores won't advertise their toy deals so you are forced to shop website to website, looking for a deal.. So be sure to keep your eye on deal blogs (like us!) or websites for deals.

How early do you start shopping for the Holidays?

Indulge that brownie fix with Bombshell Brownies! (Review & Giveaway)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again- I love a good brownie whenever I can.

When I came across Bombshell Brownie Co., I was intrigued because their brownies are flat squares of chocolate goodness. Each Bombshell Brownie is baked individually inside it's own personal jar and then sealed. Bombshell Brownies are baked fresh weekly using fresh ingredients and naturally infused oils.

Bomsbshell Brownie offers a lot different flavors including Sweet n' Spicy, Cookies n' Cream,  Linda's Cherry Jubilee, Blonde Lemon Chiffon, Motter's German Chocolate, and The Original Bombshell. They even offer gluten-free flavors like Gluten Free After Dinner Mint, Gluten Free Original Bombshell (Chocolate Chip), and even Gluten Free Sugar Free Original Bombshell.

If you have a special occasion or event coming up, you can even order in bulk and it even comes with matching raffia bows according to your event colors! If I ever get married, these would make a great wedding favor!

You can find Bombshell Brownie Co. on Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram.

BUY
You can purchase Bombshell Brownies on their website. Prices starting at $5 each.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

I had been having a really bad brownie craving, and when I get those, I want to try something I never had before. So I had a hard time choosing 3 different flavors to try. I chose mostly from the gluten-free line, since my family has really sensitive digestive systems. But I finally decided upon:

Gluten Free Original Bombshell
Gluten Free Butterscotch & Pecan
Gluten Free Cappuccino
Gluten Free Butterscotch & Pecan

You can either put the jar (unsealed) into the microwave for a few seconds, or eat it right out of the jar. We did both! The Butterscotch & Pecan was a little crumbly right out of the jar, so we put it in the microwave for about 30 seconds (since our microwave is evil) and it came out much more moist. You can really taste the pecans, and a little bit of the butterscotch.
Gluten Free Original Bombshell

My favorite was the Gluten Free Original Bombshell, which has chocolate chips in it. Oh my, talk about brownie heaven! As you can see from the picture, it is chock full of chocolate chips. Any brownieholic and chocoholic will love it!

Gluten Free Cappuccino
The Cappuccino Bombshell was very good. You can definitely taste the cappuccino, which I love since I like to have a cappuccino in the cooler seasons. It was a little more moist than the others, but it was pretty good. I think it just melted under the Texas sun. Would you if it was 100*?\

Since Twin and I are having a Perpetually 29 birthday party in December, I might have to order some more... when it gets a little closer, of course.
