I don't know about you, but until recently, I never heard of Kombucha. Apparently, it's been popular the past few years. So what exactly is Kombucha tea? It is generally an effervescent fermented drink made with tea (either black or green teas), sugar, good bacteria, and yeast. There have been reports that kombucha tea detoxifies, helps with arthritis, and aids in digestion. (We'll take a look at those claims later.)

Instead of green or black teas, Reed's Culture Club Kombucha has organic oolong and yerba mate teas, fresh ginger root, and organic flavorings (depending on the flavor you choose). There are currently 9 flavors available, including Goji Ginger, Hibiscus Ginger Grapefruit, Lemon Ginger Raspberry, Cranberry Ginger, Coconut Water Lime, Passion Mango Ginger, Cabernet Grape, and their newest flavor - Coffee!

WHAT I THOUGHT

Like I had said, I had never heard of Kombucha, but I am willing to try anything once. So when I found out I would get the chance to try Reed's Culture Club Kombucha, I did some research about it to see if the health claims were true. Unfortunately, I didn't find any definitive scientific backing to the claims, but I forged ahead with an open mind and heart.

I think the first flavor I tried was the Goji Berry. The first sip was interesting. It was like sparkling water that was beginning to go flat or when sweet tea is starting to turn. I wasn't used to the taste - yet. But that was going to change as I continued to drink it. Twin & Mom didn't care for it at all, and that's okay. As I continued to drink it, I got past the effervescence and was finally able to taste the ginger and Goji berry flavor. It was actually delicious!

A few days after that, I tried their new Coffee flavor and boy, did it have coffee in it! I could taste the coffee, though it was weird to have the "carbonation" feeling to it. But nonetheless, it was a great pick-me-up and tasted wonderful cold.

Now, I bet you're wondering about all the stuff that Kombucha is said to do. Well, I can honestly say that I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. Of course, I only drink it occasionally so we shall see as time goes on if Kombucha lives up to the claims.

But they taste great so even if nothing happens, they are a great alternative to those who love sodas and all those delicious sugar-loaded drinks!
