4 Books Every Single Woman Should Read

This post may contain affiliate links.

When you're single for a while, it can kind of be discouraging. Even if it's just after a break-up, being single can sometimes be hard. Every now and then, we need something to make us feeling good about being single, no matter how old we are.

These 4 books have shook me to the core and shook me again. They have given me a fresher look at my life and what I want out of it.

1. The Single Woman: Life, Love, and a Dash of Sass by Mandy Hale
This book is a great testament that you don't have to feel bad about being single - you can celebrate it! With plenty of wisdom, humor, and thought-provoking ideas. This book actually helped me embrace my singleness and the idea that I don't need to settle just because everyone else is in a relationship or getting married.

2. Truth, Lies, and the Single Woman: Dispelling 10 Common Myths by Allison K. Flexer
Have you ever thought "God has forgotten about me." because you've been single for a while? I know I have and more often than I'd like to mention. Truth, Lies, and the Single Woman (written in a Christian view) helps you realize that God hasn't forgotten you but instead put on this path for a specific reason. When reading this, I felt like the author knew exactly what I was going through and feeling. NOTE: This is a Christian book so it may not be for all singles.

3. Bossypants by Tina Fey
I absolutely loved Bossypants! Tina Fey, who is one of my favorite comediennes, shows us her true funny self in her autobiography. Aside from being extremely funny, she is a strong woman in the prime of her lifetime! While this book won't help you "celebrate being single", it's great to have a few books about strong women when you are feeling low. (Not to mention that it's just a wonderful book!)

4. I've Never Been to Vegas, but My Luggage Has: Mishaps and Miracles on the Road to Happily Ever After by Mandy Hale
Yes, it's another book by Ms. Hale, but this time, this is a book every woman should read! It's full of funny anecdotes, pieces of truth, and experiences that most women can relate to. I found myself smiling, laughing, or nodding through out the entire book. Rarely do I ever come across a book I can almost completely relate to - and this one was it!

Whether you get anything out of the books or not, they are wonderful reads and a great way to celebrate being a strong independent single woman without the need to wallow in self-pity.

What books would you add to the list?

My Hopes for 2015!

It is New Year's Eve, and what a year 2014 has been! It wasn't a good year by any means - we faced eviction (and was thankfully able to stay in our home), lost our car, plenty of hospital visits, and I faced some personal issues. But my family was able to persevere and come out on top. In that time, we found our faith again, which has really made a difference in the way I handle things.

I always say that the new year will be the best year I can possibly have. Well, we all know that never works out the way we hope or plan. Things get thrown in that can completely throw you for a loop.

So, instead of hoping that 2015 is "the best year I can possibly have", I have decided to make 2015 the year I work on myself. I still plan to lose a lot of weight (which I am currently working on), enroll into college, start dating, and see where I can take Edge of Insanity. In fact, I have a lot of ideas for Edge of Insanity in 2015 that might surprise a few people. But those announcements will come in the next few days.

But I can honestly say that I have learned more from this year than I have previously. It has allowed me to grow more as a person and towards the person I want to become.

I know 2015 is going to be an amazing year - not only for me, but my family as well.

Let's make 2015 the year we will never forget!

"You must feel lonely!"- Wait. What?

The other day, I was commenting on a status update on Facebook about being single at Christmas when someone replied with "You must feel lonely". Wait a minute. When did being single at the Holidays suddenly become about feeling lonely? Last time I checked, I can't ever recall feeling lonely at Christmas. I spend it with my loved ones, so I am hardly ever alone. But there are also some perks about not being attached during Christmas:
  1. I don't have to share my chocolate.
  2. One less gift to buy.
  3. Plenty of people to mingle (and flirt) with at parties.
  4. Can you say sweat pants on Christmas morning?
  5. No arguments over where to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
  6. I can laugh or even drool over the half-naked guys in the Show Your Joe Boxer K-Mart commercial without feeling like I'm cheating.
  7. Last, but certainly not least, my adult Christmas wishlist can include Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead)!
I may be single yet again this Christmas, but that's is okay. I have my family (and yummy treats) to keep me warm!

Library Love

Okay, maybe love is too strong of a word.

But something happened to me that I though would never happen in a million. Let me tell you a little history: I have been single for about 4 years, finding myself and taking care of Mom. But recently, I have felt like I am ready to be in a relationship again. So the other morning, while I was on the laptop and Twin was waiting for me to give her some passwords, and this guy was on another computer, a few rows down. I saw that he kept peeking at me between the computers. So did Twin. She says, "I think someone likes you.". Instead of being creeped out, I felt a little shy. He comes over and asks, "Do you know this town?". Twin replied with "Depends on where you're going.". So we find out he's trying to find this place that isn't too terribly far. In the process, he blurts out "Are you single?" and immediately covers up by blushing and saying that was too forward.

I had no problem telling him I was single and even gave him my number. Come to find out, he also has a twin sister. He's a very talented musician, and is either an engineer or engineer tech. He talks so damn fast that I didn't quite get it.

But he seems like a down-to-earth guy and I'm interested to see where it goes!
