DESCRIPTION:
Though only forty miles south of New Orleans, Goose Island may as well be in another world. It's also a resort frequented by actors, screenwriters, and powerful people in the burgeoning Louisiana film industry. When a heinous death occurs on the island, a movie producer hires Wyatt Thomas, the French Quarter's favorite sleuth, to find out whom or what killed the victim. Was it wild dogs or a rougarou (Cajun werewolf) as the local voodoo woman tells Wyatt? His own life threatened, he must first survive the killer (or maybe killers), and the deadly hurricane taking direct aim at the monastery. 

WHAT I THOUGHT:
I'll be honest- it took me a while to pick this book back up after reading a few pages. I just couldn't get into it at that time, for some reason. But after reading 2 books, I decided to see if I can finally find the inspiration to finish Primal Creatures, and I am glad I did!

The book starts out with 2 people, who are in love's throes, come back to reality when the guy hears what he thinks is a wolf, but the woman doesn't think they are in danger. Unfortunately, they didn't have enough time to get back to the monastery before someone is killed. Turns out that the person killed was a famous actor, so when Wyatt Thomas is hired by a film producer, Thomas is in for a wild ride! Was it really just a wild dog or was it truly a rougarou? I won't tell you!

But I will say that this book about Cajun werewolves is a nice step away from the werewolves that save the world or something like that. Some of the characters are a little flat, like Bertram and Johnny. They don't really have a lot of personality. Wilder's telling of the Big Easy seems almost spot on, especially post-Katrina. Even his description of the voodoo that is practiced in New Orleans and Louisiana is very close to what actually does happen.

The book moved fluidly, just like any book should, right? Some parts had me wanting to see what happens, though there are some "adult" parts in the book that made me a little uncomfortable. I'm not a prude, but I'm not a big fan of "adult" themes in books. It just takes away from the story. Anyways, It was an excellent book filled with New Orleans, werewolves, voodoo, and new beginnings. This is a keeper!
