DESCRIPTION
"If a bird flies out of a house of sickness, the patient will die." The hills around Morganton, North Carolina are full of secrets as is the town itself. A young girl Arliss Pardot, is removed from the wreckage of a dilapidated cabin that is filled with empty bird cages and the corpse of a long dead man. Years later she has moved on, has no recollection of her past and is living her life in New York when she gets a call that her mother has died in Broughton Mental Hospital. As she learns about her childhood, many dark secrets come to light. An unrequited love, a sinister preacher and his odd cult, a black ritual and a malignant entity all lurk there in the shadows of the quaint Southern town. But some questions are best unasked and some secrets are Best Left Buried.

WHAT I THOUGHT
It started out a little confusing- I wasn’t sure where the book was headed. But after Arliss’ mother dies, she brought back to a dark world she had long forgotten. With a preacher gone mad, grandfather trying to change his ways, and a boyfriend who doesn’t understand the word “no”, Arliss is stuck in a position she has no clue how to get out of.  Is the whole town after her or part of this secrecy that might bring up terrible memories? Is there someone out there who wants to set things right or does he want revenge?

Though the book can get a little long-winded at times, it draws you back to story with just the turn of a page. One thing that kind of creeped me out was the birds- birds watching Arliss; birds watching the boyfriend; birds even watching the rogue priest. Are they friend or foe? Are they really there for protection and to bring messages or do they have their own agenda? I can’t tell you but one thing I can tell you is that a flock of birds will have me looking in all directions. LOL Certain “bird” parts reminded me of the famous Hitchcock movie “The Birds”.

Anyways, once I got on a roll of reading it, I couldn’t put the Kindle down! It is definitely a book I’ll read again.
