DIY: Acne Spot Care Soultions

Acne was no fun growing up. It certainly isn't fun as an adult! But instead of buying expensive cleansers or shelling out big bucks for a dermatologist, I have found some ways to take care of acne without spending an arm and a leg to get rid of it.

Solution #1: Toothpaste
Before you wrinkle your nose is disgust, it actually works. The trick is to use a gentle toothpaste (like those made for children). Since many adult toothpaste brands have chemicals that can irritate the skin and even cause peeling, using an adult toothpaste may do my harm than good. Plus only use it if you're in a pinch and you have overnight. Do not use it long term.

Solution #2: Cleanser
You can use any cleanser you have around the house, but do not use astringent. It generally works better if you have a thick cleanser that you massage into your skin and wash off. If you just have 1 or 2 areas that have acne, you can "spot cleanse" but massaging the cleanser into the pimple for 30-60 seconds and then rinse off. You'll automatically notice a difference and within a day or two, the acne will be gone.

Solution #3: Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is widely featured in facial washes and cleansers because it’s a natural antiseptic and has antibacterial qualities. I recommend buying just the oil since many skin care products don't have a large amount of tea tree oil in it, which doesn't have that big of an impact. Rub a small amount of tea tree oil onto blemishes.

What are some cheap but true ways have you gotten rid of acne?

  1. I have heard about the toothpaste method and people say it really works. I haven't had to worry about acne for a very long time. Thanks for these tips. I will pass them on to a few family members that will be interested.
