You can purchase the Arabica Coffee full-size bar and Sea Salt & Nibs full-size bar for $5.99 each.

As I said, I've been on an organic chocolate binge! So when I was able to review Madecasse, I was in heaven! I didn't know what to expect, since they’re flavors are different.

I was able to review Arabica Coffee and Sea Salt & Nibs. The first thing I noticed was the packaging. It had a craft paper feel to it and had a piece of raffia tied on top. Then as I opened it, I noticed that the Arabic Coffee and Sea Salt & Nibs had sprinkles of the back. Of course, these sprinkles were the coffee and nibs.
Arabica Coffee- I love the smell of coffee, so I noticed it has a delicious sweet smell to it. It was definitely crunchy and tasted like mocha. It was a little bitter but it also wasn't overly sweet. A nice combination and great way to wake up!

Sea Salt & Nibs- I should have researched nibs before taking a bite. I didn't know nibs were bitter, but it didn't deter me from eating it! It was bitter, sweet, and salty! But it wasn't overly salty as you would think. Every time I took a bite, I would taste the chocolate and nibs first, then a little salty finish.

They were absolutely delicious. I might have to try the other flavors!

Thanks to the great folks at Madecasse, one (1) winner will receive 3 mini-bars! The flavors include: Sea Salt & Nibs, Arabica Coffee, and Cinnamon & Sakay.

A Wonderful Surprise!

It's not often that I get to share good news from the family. But lately, I have been working my butt off. Mom & Twin haven't been feeling well so I have been helping Dad with errands, the accident, and other things, including waking up before the sun rises so I'm ready.

I never expected anything in return. But as we were going out to lunch earlier, Mom told Twin & Dad that when we get to Dollar General, go ahead and choose me out a gift/present for everything I had done. I have no clue what they were gonna choose. As Mom got back in the car from checking out, she hands me a $25 Amazon gift card. I wanted to cry and didn't want to accept it. But I knew it would hurt their feelings if I didn't, so I graciously accepted it.

Of course, once we got home, I had to spend it. I had a book in mind that I wanted to get, but also wanted something else so I ended up getting a pillar candle. It only cost me $25.17, with free shipping. Sure, it didn't last long, but it got spent well.

I feel bad because they didn't have to get it for me, and to be honest, I'm not used to this kind of thing, unless it's a special occasion (like a birthday or Easter). It still feels weird, knowing that I had to spend it on myself, no matter how many times I tried to argue with them.

How do you accept gifts like that without wanting to pay them back?

Journey to Virginland Review & Giveaway

Title: Journey to Viriginland
Author: Armen Melikian
Pages: 288
 ISBN-10: 1935097512
 ISBN-13: 978-1935097518

The protagonist, a loutish and uber-cerebral antihero known simply as Dog, takes on the challenge to navigate the perilous paradigm shifts of our age, determined to find his proper place under the sun. Is he doomed to failure? Or will he pull it off by heeding his own irreducible voice, given the ebb of the old certainties?

Dog pursues the answer unrelentingly, through an impassioned quest for identity and meaning. He revisits his relationships with women, family, literature, and homeland, in the process illuminating his journey with commentaries on history, religion, politics, and culture that unravel our very fabric.

I will not lie and say that it's an easy book to read- it's not. The constant flow of high vocabulary and dry wit will leave you feeling either smarter having read it or like you should read it with a dictionary. Sure, I didn't understand quite a few words but once I looked them up, I could finally understand what Dog was talking about.

Anyways, it's an interesting look into the society we know today. While constantly trying to figure out the world, Dog takes a good look at himself and takes stock of what he has experienced, what he thinks about religion, politics, and of course, sex. While I personally agreed with a few things, some might feel offended. It isn't a book for everyone, but Melikian pulls the reader in and doesn't let go. If you research some of the areas (such as Virginland or Paradise), you will find that in reality, they do exist in some part of the world. While it is a work of fiction, you can't help but think that maybe there is some truth to it.

Melikian's writing will shake the very fabric of literature, enticing readers to take notice.

You can find Melikian on Facebook and Twitter.

Armen Melikian holds a Master's in International Relations from American University, Washington, D.C. He has also studied mathematics at Harvard and elsewhere, and was admitted by the Mathematical Institute of Oxford University to pursue graduate studies in Analytic Geometry, Mathematical Physics, and Topology. However, he eventually abandoned both politics and mathematics in favor of literature and dedicated his life to writing. Melikian lives in Los Angeles.

Galison Review

Stationary (besides diamonds) is a girl’s best friend. You could be completely organized and still send the most fabulous-looking letters!

Galison is your one-stop shop for stationary and organizers! Whether you’re looking to get organized in the office, find an adorable journal, or note cards, you are bound to find something that suits your style! I personally love sticky notes. I use them for everything, from wanting to remember when a movie came on to what I need to look up the next day. They have neat-shaped sticky notes that will brighten up your workspace but help you remember things you need to!

If you love journaling, then you have go to check out their array of journals! For those that write every day, they have a Berry Field Everyday Journal! With 160 lined pages, you can write to your heart’s content! Whenever I go on trips (no matter how short), I like to write down what I experience so that when I go back, I can remember every detail. If you like to do the same, they have a Travel Journal! You’ll find a planning timeline, itinerary, checklist, and oodles of other things to make that trip memorable!

Note cards are probably the most versatile thing on earth! They’re great for sending love notes, thank you notes, or even notes to just tell someone “hi”! Galison has quite a few varieties of social note cards and correspondence cards! If you love water, floral, or even Monet’s Waterlilies, you can send those notes in style that will have everyone asking you where you got them!

I know that sometimes I have trouble keeping tracking of important dates like anniversaries or birthdays. With Galison’s Perpetual Calendars, you no longer have to forget! It doesn’t go by the year, just by the Month and Day. So just add that important birthday or anniversary next to the day under the month and you’re set!

William Morris Evening Garden Writer's Notebooks
We all want to try and live in a little greener and Galison can help. Galison Green products are produced on 100% recycled paper that are environmentally safe and not to mention cute! You have your choice of Writer’s Notebooks, Note Cards, Notes, and Notepads.

For those that are little less organized (like me), they have accordion organizers, file totes, business card holders, and weekly organizers. So we may not have the neatest stack of files, but we can sure look cute trying!

You can find Galison on Facebook and Twitter.

You can purchase the Folk Floral Weekly Organizer for $17.00. Receive 15% OFF any order when you enter the coupon code ZZZ2 upon checkout.

I am not organized by any means. I have a huge Ziploc bag holding important papers in a binder so that I know where everything is. Before I got the Folk Floral Weekly Organizer, I had tons of sticky notes on my wall calendar, reminding me to research this, post that, watch this, and tell Twin that. If it didn’t get written down, I would forget.

So when I was able to review the organizer, I knew that my organization would improve just a bit. I love that there are sheets for each week. I write down the night before what I need to do the next day in order so that I wouldn’t forget. Week over? Tear the sheet off and start all over again! And since there are more than 52 sheets, I will most likely be using it through 2013 as well!

It also has a cute notepad (which is very helpful when remembering last minute details), 1 medium sticky notepad (great for last minute details and sticking it right on the date), and 2 small sticky notepads. It also has a small accordion file right next to the sticky notepads, which I love because it’s great for small notes and papers!

It has helped me so much more organized and I rarely forget something now!

Valentine's for $20 or Less!

Valentine's Day is now about 8 or 9 days away and you probably haven't gotten anything yet for your husband/boyfriend (or wife/girlfriend or even kids) and you probably don't wanna spend a ton of money, right?

For the husband (or boyfriend), get them something that is meaningful but also useful. If they're always heading to the hardware store for those "projects" in the garage, get them a $15 gift card to their favorite hardware store. If you must get them a card, try something personalized from Tiny Prints or Cardstore. They always have cards that tailored for a guy's humor. Since that will only cost maybe $4, you still have $1!

For that lady in your life, spending $20 might seem a little harder because they're expecting roses, candy, and a card. Instead of ordering flowers online (which tend to be expensive), go to your local florists. They usually have a good deal on flowers and you help out a small business. If you're sweetie loves chocolate, don't buy those chocolates up front. Instead, find the candy isle and that is where you will find gourmet chocolates like Godiva and might find a good deal. Once again, try and find a personalized card online for less than $4. If they're not into flowers and want a teddy bear instead, there are plenty of choices! One year, Twin had gotten me a white monkey for Valentine's Day. I still have it!

If you're really strapped for cash but want to get them something cute, you can't go wrong with a funny card and adorable stuffed animal. Prices on adorable teddy bears are usually lower at stores like Walgreens and CVS. Of course you'll be paying retail for the card (which is always cheaper online), but of course, spending $4 for a card isn't too bad either, especially if you have a coupon!

I'm not one for a dozen roses and a giant teddy bear. Just give me a funny card and some chocolate!

A couple of days ago, I started sneezing my head off. I knew something was up because I hardly sneeze. Then the next day, I am sick with a terrible cold. I wasn't the only one- Twin had gotten sick as well. So we spent the next 2 days in bed, feeling so wiped out to do anything but sleep and watch TV. As I got up today to go do errands, I noticed Mom wasn't her normal cheery self. She had gotten sick too! So now, except for Dad, the whole house is sick. But at least we have tons of juice and medicine to help those sniffles and coughs.

On to some good news- we have another great giveaway coming up in about a week or so! If you're a tea drinker, you'll love it!

We're also starting something new here at Edge of Insanity. We're have a new spotlight feature called Shop Small, where we will feature a local business to show that we support small businesses! Maybe we'll even have a review or 2 from some of them! Do you shop at small businesses in your area or do you prefer major chains like Walmart?

Tortuga Rum Cake Review

When you first hear the word “rum”, you think of Johnny Depp on an island with Keira Knightly, drinking rum. But did you know that rum desserts such as rum balls are actually delicious? While I've had rum balls, I've never had rum cake!

Tortuga Rum Cakes has Caribbean rum cakes and other decadent treats.  Made from a four-generation old family secret recipe, Tortuga rum cakes are baked daily in the Caribbean with a special oak-barrel aged Tortuga gold rum. Besides rum cakes, Tortuga also offers rum fudge, coffee, and even special gifts

They are mostly known for their delicious rum cakes, with flavors like Pineapple, Chocolate, and even Blue Mountain Coffee. But it doesn't stop at just their many flavors! You can also get them in various sizes such as 33oz, 16oz, and even 4oz packs!

Mango & Ginger
If you’re looking to try some of their rum fudge, you have your choice of Florida Rum Fudge or Tortuga Rum Fudge! Florida Rum Fudge has flavors such as Banana, and Coconut while Tortuga Rum Fudge has Coconut and, Banana, and original Rum fudge. If you like Rum Truffles, why not get some of their Chocolate Hazelnut Rum Truffles? It has Tortuga Dark Rum and orange essence in it!

If you want something a little more interesting, they have Tortuga Gourmet Sauces! They have Hell-fire Hot Pepper Sauce, Jerk Sauce, and even Mango & Ginger Stir Fry Sauce! I don’t think they include any Tortuga rum (sorry) but it should make for interesting dishes!

They have more products available, which even includes Tortuga Rum Conch Chowder! I've never had Conch before but Conch Chowder sounds delicious!

You can find Tortuga Rum Cake Co on Twitter and Facebook.

Prices vary.

As I've said before, I've never had rum cake but I have heard so many great things about Tortuga that I had to try them. I was able to try a 4oz rum cake of their Original Golden (With Walnuts) and a 4oz rum cake of Coconut.
Original Golden (W/ Walnuts)

I loved the Original Golden (With Walnuts)! It was so moist and sweet. You can definitely taste the rum in there but it wasn't overbearing. There weren't a lot of walnuts either, which is great because otherwise the walnut flavor would have overpowered the rum flavor. I shared half of it with Twin and she loved it just as much as I did!

The Coconut was just as delicious! You could taste the coconut without it being too much. I shared it with Mom and Twin this time and Mom had wished we had more! I have to agree. It was sooooooo good and addicting! Like the first one, it was so moist and sweet. It wasn't dry at all and you could just taste the rum and the coconut in a nice combination! They didn't last 30 minutes between the 3 of us!

I was NOT compensated for this review. I received two (2) FREE 4oz rum cakes from Tortuga Rum Cake Co to review. All thoughts/opinions are my own.
